cause we consider these minutes golden

First thing I did when I got home was get out my camera to take photos of the pseudo-sakura blossoms outside (they're actually wild pear trees). It's a cheap cliche, yeah, taking photos of flowers, but it was beautiful. The sky was like pure white.

day 17 → a book you’ve read that changed your views on something.

Umm...well I do enjoy reading, because I really love words. There's this book I read recently that was in the quirk in the right way, and I admire it.

"The reason you can't really imagine yourself dead was that as soon as you say "I'll be dead", you've said the word I, and you're still alive inside the sentence. And that's how people got the idea of the immortality of the soul - it was a consequence of grammar. And so was God, because as soon as there is a past tense, there has to be a past before the past, and you keep going back in time until you get to I don't know, and that's what God is. It's what you don't know - the dark, the hidden, the underside of the visible, and all because we have grammar."

- Margaret Atwood, The Year of the Flood

It's very dr-seuss-the-lorax. Like it makes little to no sense but it sounds like one of those things that's meant to make you very enlightened. And then from here you can either continue on with your life or be enlightened and get sucked into this warped religion where you worship grammar and the human gene that allows birds to sing, your choice. It's like wishful thinking on the authors behalf. I thought it was brilliant, but I've over-read and over-thought it.

The grammar emphasise reminded me of that HIMYM episode:

(What Lily claimed happened)
Art professor: Oh my God. This is your best work! In all my years teaching I have never seen anything so... Needless to say, this is art! I can’t teach you anything. (Gives Lily his paintbrush)

(What actually happened)
Art professor: Oh my God. This is your best work? In all my years teaching I have never seen anything so…needless! To say this is…art. I can’t teach you anything.(Takes away Lily’s paintbrush)

Hahahaha amazing.
